Final Cut Pro Getting Started

Final Cut Pro - Getting Started

Press apple (cmd) and space, and type in "Final Cut Pro"

Create a new event, by right click (two finger tap) and select "New Event" in your existing Library

Name your event

Now select import media, or, plug in your SD card.

Select the clips you wish to add, to your event.

Selecting 'copy to library' will copy the clips into your documents folder on this specific iMac. Selecting 'Leave files in place' will mean you edit off the SDcard (or Hard Drive, or shared folder). For now you will probably use copy to library, for your final films you will not.

Now create a new project (this will be your video)

Name it

You can now drag your videos from the event, into the timeline at the bottom of the frame.

These shortcuts will control how you edit.

Select: - Allows you to move clips around the timeline, they will automatically reorder themselves.

Trim: - Allows you to trim the start or end of the clips to make them, start later or end earlier.

Position: - Allows you move clips around the timeline precisely, be warned, if you move a clip over another, it will not reorder and will delete whatever you move beneath.

Blade: - This will allow you to 'cut' a clip into two (or more) separate clips.
